

PRACTICAL DRIVING TEST
It is not the intention of this page to tell you all you need to know to pass the practical driving test, you should obtain a copy of the book THE DRIVING TEST, available from all good book shops and some driving instructors.
You will find achieving success on your first attempt easier if you:
* Study the official book.
* Find a good Approved Driving Instructor.
* Get Plenty of practice.
* Have the right attitude.
The national average pass rate for the practical test is well under 50% -
* Committing more than fifteen driving faults.
* Not well enough prepared for the test.
* Not having sufficient practice.
* Performing a dangerous or potentially dangerous manoeuvre on the test .
You will achieve success if you are able to:
* Drive safely and competetently
* Complete the set exercises
* Put into practice your knowledge of the Highway Code
You will be asked to do at least two of the following exercises:
* Reverse around a corner.
* Turn the car around in the road using forward and reverse gears.
* Reverse park on the road or in a parking bay.
* Stop the car as in an emergency under full control.
Every effort is made to standardise the test, so it should not matter which test
centre you use or who examines you, the result should be the same. You can use your
own car or a driving school vehicle. The test will last about 40 minutes and will
include driving on dual-
You should aim to drive the car in the same manner as your instructor has taught you. The examiner is well aware you may be nervous, if you have not understood what was said or have not heard clearly, ask for it to be repeated.
